Things were looking a bit uncertain for Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird, and the rest of the gang
when Max revealed late last year that it would no longer carry new episodes of Sesame Street. But much like a classic tale with a twist, this story is heading toward a cheerful resolution.
Later this year, Sesame Street will begin streaming on Netflix.

In a press release, Netflix described Sesame Street as a "beloved cornerstone of children's media" and announced that the show’s 56th season would feature “fresh format changes and the return of fan-favorite segments like Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck.” Netflix will also host 90 hours of past episodes from the show’s extensive library.
One major update under this new arrangement: Previously, new episodes debuted on Max before airing on PBS months afterward, due to a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. Now, PBS stations and PBS KIDS will premiere new episodes at the same time they become available on Netflix. This shift will help “bring critical early learning to children throughout the country for free,” the release stated.
Sara DeWitt, senior vice president and general manager of PBS KIDS, emphasized the importance of accessibility in her announcement “Public media is essential, and we know from years of research that providing new, high-quality content to children across the country for free helps prepare them for success in school and life.”
Back in early March, Sesame Workshop shared that it would be laying off around 20% of its employees. “Amid the changing media and funding landscape, we have made the difficult decision to reduce the size of our organization,” the company said. “These changes are necessary to ensure that the Workshop is poised to continue to deliver on its mission for years to come.”

In a fun twist, Netflix revealed that Cookie Monster will be opening his own Cookie Cart on Sesame Street, adding to his duties alongside Gonger in the Foodie Truck.
